OLD FASHIONED

This drink's origins are so ancient that it's difficult to establish its origins with certainty. It was originally called a Whiskey Cocktail, according to the classic 1806 definition of a cocktail: a mixture of distilled spirits, sugar, water, and bitters. From the second half of the 19th century, the availability of new liqueurs led to the creation of an endless variety of new, "improved" Whiskey Cocktails, but also sparked a kind of rebellion among those who only wanted the "old-fashioned" recipe. And so it was that the corresponding English expression gave its name to the Old Fashioned.
 
מקורותיו של משקה זה כה קדומים עד שקשה לקבוע את מקורותיו בוודאות. במקור הוא נקרא קוקטייל ויסקי, על פי ההגדרה הקלאסית משנת 1806 לקוקטייל: תערובת של משקאות חריפים מזוקקים, סוכר, מים וביטרים. מהמחצית השנייה של המאה ה-19, זמינותם של ליקרים חדשים הובילה ליצירת מגוון אינסופי של קוקטיילי ויסקי חדשים ו"משופרים", אך גם הציתה סוג של מרד בקרב אלו שרצו רק את המתכון ה"ישן והטוב". וכך היה שהביטוי האנגלי המתאים נתן את שמו ל"ישן והטוב".
